sumi-e

Sumi-e places emphasis on technique.  Students learn the value of both practice and making peace with your mistakes. It also requires one to be both focused and relaxed, paying attention to, and being intentional with, your brush to keep strokes smooth and accurate.   

We start by watching videos, slideshows, and practice in our journal.  Students then complete practice pieces with pencils.  Then, after more practice, we work with brushes and ink.
