How you present yourself is part of how you treat other people. You are already showing if you are kind and respectful, even if you haven't said a word. 9 Some of these skills are called 'norms.' They are things that people are expected to do so that they are better people to be around. They act as signs that you respect and value the person that you are listening to or talking to.
Sometimes kids experiment with breaking or changing these norms. That is fine when there is a reason and it doesn't hurt others. However, changing them for no reason other than to be different, or for small reasons, is selfish: it shows that you put your small wants ahead of thinking about other people.

If you are going to try and do things differently, great, but you don't need to be a jerk about it. The goal is not for your to be a rebel who tries to change things for small and petty reasons that you will quickly grow out of. You can be a rebel, but do it rarely and thoughtfully.
